As time goes by...
Since hatching this idea within the family, time and details have been catching up with us. The trip has morphed significantly since the initial posts and the map detailing our original idea. NOW, we are looking to conform the trip to a window that fits Delta's SkySaver frequent flyer award travel redemptions. That's right, the fabled drive across America has been compromised into a fly-drive tour of the east coast and Midwest. My business travel has proved more fruitful than expected and we have 4 free tickets on Delta - as well as the entire 15 nights of free hotels! So rather than torture the family with full-day car trips to make each leg of a 20-day vacation by car, we saw reason and will still see a huge expanse of the country, but in smaller chunks each day. This will help to maximize seeing the sights, rather than the road. Although, the road for the road's sake is still a draw from me and will gnaw at me for years to come.
