Current Route
Locked-In: Tickets in hand...
I'd say we are pretty much committed now. We have our seats for round trip air to DC and most of our hotel nights booked. The map below provides our substantially revised drive route, compared to what we had planned originally. NOW the plan is to fly to DC, see the sights there for a couple of days, then take the AMTRAK to Boston, stopping briefly in Philly and NYC on the way. After a couple of days in Boston, we will begin our excursion through the interior of New England and the Midwest. We will loop from Boston out as far west as Iowa, then down to St. Louis, and back across the lower Midwest to Williamsburg, VA. We then would fly back from DC to Richland. So far we expect to have no out of pocket expenses for the airfare (except the booking fees on the award tickets). All the hotel nights will also come gratis via award nights. We plan to do the one-way rental from Boston to DC. After that, we are looking at fairly expensive gas, attraction entrance fees, and food as the remaining major expenses. Drop us a line if you have suggestions of attractions we might overlook on this route - keeping in mind that we still need to cover a lot of ground each day on the road.
